YOUNG PROFESSIONAL TRUCKER UUM-PKT 2020 PROGRAMME RECEIVES RECOGNITION FROM THE PRIME MINISTER

uum pktUUM ONLINE: Tanjung Malim - Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) Career Advancement Programme (CAP) Young Professional Trucker UUM-PKT 2020 has received recognition from the Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during the launch of Keluarga Malaysia@IPT on Wednesday at the Tuanku Chancellor Hall, Sultan Idris Education University.

The PENJANA MoHE-CAP Young Professional Trucker UUM-PKT 2020 programme is one of the many job placement programmes for graduates that have been successfully implemented and have met the objectives set by MoHE.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor said, the PENJANA Programme succeeded in fulfilling one of the components of Malaysian Family Aspirations of MoHE in terms of boosting social stability which is a big challenge in creating economic stability and further contribution towards the country's sustainability and prosperity, especially with the country confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, the programme organised by the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML) in collaboration with fellow industry partner, PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd. demonstrated synergy and strategic collaboration that was expected to help increase the marketability potential of graduates, especially UUM graduates and graduates from other public universities in general.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of PKT Logistics, Dato' Seri Michael Tio also expressed hope that the strategic cooperation could be expanded to other areas.

"The potential for collaboration between universities and industries should be further enhanced in order to increase the marketability of graduates, which will benefit all parties," said the Managing Director of PKT Logistics.

PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd. acts as the provider of training to 100 graduates across Malaysia interested in becoming professional truck drivers.

This programme has attracted a total of 100 graduates, 50 of whom are UUM graduates and the rest are graduates from other public universities.

Graduates will be hired by PKT Logistics after completing the 6-month programme and gaining the necessary industry skills.

Apart from PKT Logistics, 20 other companies are also offering job opportunities to graduates of this PENJANA programme.

At the ceremony, Dato' Seri Michael presented a symbolic job offer letter to Mr. Muhammad Amirul Solehin Nor Kamarudin, 25, a graduate of the Bachelor of Technology Management programme from UUM who represented 99 other graduates. Present to witness the historic event were the Right Honourable Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad.

Also present at the event were the Project Director of the MoHE-CAP PENJANA Young Professional Trucker UUM-PKT 2020, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Herman Shah Anuar; Manager of PKT Logistics, Mr. Badrul Shah Abdul Razak, and Mr. Hapisol Othman who represented the UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni).
