Vice-Chancellor Town Hall Session With Young Lecturers Provides Inputs With Positive Impact

VICE CHANCELLOR TOWN HALL SESSION WITH YOUNG LECTURERS PROVIDES INPUTS WITH POSITIVE IMPACT

The encouraging response received from the UUM denizens particularly from the academic staff certainly brightened the Vice-Chancellor Town Hall Session with the Young Lecturers held recently at the SOIS Auditorium, UUM recently.

During the programme organised by the Chancellery, the Vice-Chancellor spoke about UUM's achievement, international recognition, direction and strategic planning in driving the university towards becoming the Eminent Management University.

According to him, UUM was ranked at the 591 - 600 rung in the world ranking according to the QS World University Rankings and was ranked at the 201-250 rung in Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2019,which in one fell swoop boosted UUM's image in the eyes of the world.

Meanwhile, in terms of the Asian level, UUM was ranked at the 128th position, 19th. at Asean level and 10th. position in Malaysia.

Statistics of young lecturers whose ages ranged from 45 years and below showed that STML dominated the chart with 77 people followed by TISSA with 69 and SEFB with 62 ever since the year 2017.

"We obtain grants from the government so we need to maintain the quality of service in line with efforts to improve the quality of public services.

"The outcome of my discussions with the industry, has revealed that the researches done have been found to be irrelevant to the industry hence we must produce industry-related research and our focus is to be closer to the industry," he said.

According to him, to move forward, UUM must move towards and embrace the digital world by means of creating a smart campus, preserving the green campus, intensifying the internationalization agenda, mobilizing the marketing department namely the Strategic Business and Business Development (BSD) and consolidating the UUMKL campus.

At the event, he also reminded members of staff to take care of their health for them to remain productive. He also called on the members of staff to be disciplined, maintain their integrity and prevent sexual harassment from taking place at the offices or in the lecture rooms or halls.

Meanwhile during the Sharing Session: Experience in Research Activity, Lt. Col. (PA) Prof. Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Suki shared her experiences, tips and secrets of success in becoming a professor at a tender age.
