UUM VICE-CHANCELLOR OFFICIATES THE UUM STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL OPEN DAY

open day mppUUM ONLINE: The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has planned a slew of exciting activities to coincide with its Open Day, which was recently officiated via online by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani.

He who officiated the programme praised the 39 members of the UUM SRC who not only devised 17 interesting slots, but will also feature panellists from various departments and schools who will share information while tracing the SRC's journey during its six months of service in the 2020/2021 academic session.

Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir expressed hope that the planned activities, which include a special talk, tazkirah, intellectual discussion, forum, townhall, bulletin, and other events, will not only fulfil the programme but will also demonstrate that the student leaders from this management university are also trained and responsible in areas other than academics.

"The university administration has always expected the SRC line-up to carry out their duties, prioritise the academic field, and achieve excellence in all that they do," he added.

He went on to say that it is the Ministry of Higher Education's (MOHE) responsibility, through Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), to produce students who are skilled in all aspects, both academic and leadership, in order to help produce a generation of superior and progressive students.

Therefore, by organising the SRC Open Day, students on campus will be aided in learning about the channels through which they can address their queries or grievances as opposed to using social media such as Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, and other apps.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Mr. Muhammad Azri Mizra, Director of the Open Day Programme, stated that the programme is intended to educate fellow students about the role of student reps, who constantly strive to be a mediator between the university administration and MOHE in channelling students' opinions, views, complaints, and grievances.

"Indeed, the appointment of members of the UUM SRC to the Senate Meeting demonstrates the management's willingness to involve student representatives in the management's discussions and implementation, including discussing student affairs," he added.

In conjunction with the SRC Open Day, among the programmes in store are Borak Kopitiam, Cakna Siswa Talk, Student Conference Bulletin, E-Complaint System Implementation Presentation, Promotional Video Screening and Tutorial, Health and Safety Talk, Prime Yasiin Recitation, Maghrib Tazkirah, SRC Virtual Shop, UUM SRC Session 2020/2021 Corporate Video Premiere, Talks; Final Acceleration SRC Service Mission, Presentation of UUM SRC Mid-Term Service Report and others.
