UUM-TISSA Adjunct Professorial Lecture Discusses The Future Of Accounting Profession

UUM TISSA ADJUNCT PROFESSORIAL LECTURE DISCUSSES THE FUTURE OF ACCOUNTING PROFESSION

Founder and partner of SALIHIN, Mr. Salihin Abang shared ideas on the future of accounting in the era of technology with students of  Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in conjunction with the  Adjunct Professorial Lecture organized by the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM) held at the Seminar Hall CAS recently.

The lecture which was entitled, "The future of Accountancy in a Technological Future" outlines the technological trends in the field of accounting and future prospects of the profession.

In his lecture, he enlightened attendees with nine major technologies responsible for transforming trade commerce and industry including Internet of Things (IoT), big data and analysis as well as cloud computing.

"The development of financial technology or FinTech namely RoBoCFO and RoBoBanker basically alters the nature of accounting and financial services delivery.

"Other technologies such as big data and analysis enable auditors to assess the growing amount of data," he said.

He also reminded students that common accounting functions have been replaced by technology. And technology has in turn forced people to take on tasks that require deliberations and creativity, qualities which are non-existence in technology.

In addition, he added, students pursuing studies in the field of accountancy should also possess other skills such as data analysis, finance and law to compete in the future.

The programme which was attended by mostly accounting students lasted two hours and it concluded with a question and answer session.

A knowledge-sharing session was also held at the Insan Fikir Meeting Room after the Adjunct Professorial Lecture.

The session provided opportunities for the staff of TISSA-UUM to highlight various issues such as the MIA competency framework, the role of educators in the digital age and the need for TISSA-UUM to overhaul the offering of its programmes in the face of technological change.
