UUM STUDENTS FROM PAHANG HONOURED BY THE PAHANG MENTERI BESAR

UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - The Pahang state government honoured more than 2,000 university students who hail from the state in the Eidul Fitri celebration held at the World Trade Centre last Saturday.

Additionally, three students were recognised as Pahang Student Icons 2023 for their exceptional academic achievements in their respective educational institutions.

They are Ms. Nor Hazelin Hazman from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Ms. Liyana Nur Hazirah Mohamad Noor Azman from Pahang Foundation University College and Mr. Muhammad Alif Syafiq Mohamed Ismail from Sultan Ahmad Shah Islamic University Pahang. Each of them received a certificate of excellence, a plaque and cash amounting to RM2,000.

The event, which was organized for the second time after 10 years with the Pahang Student Council (MAMPAN) in peninsular Malaysia, afforded students the chance to engage with the Menteri Besar of Pahang, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, and the state government's leadership.

During his address, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy commended the contribution of MAMPAN in cultivating skilled individuals and prospective leaders to serve the nation, ever since its inception on the 6 November 1999.

"Various programmes organised by MAMPAN have a significant influence on the students by acting as a mentor and providing them with experience. It is my belief that MAMPAN has the potential to develop into a student organisation that is efficient in producing high-calibre human capital.

"In addition to that, I also hope that this recognition of the Pahang Student Icon will inspire other students to continue to achieve excellence in whatever field they pursue, whether it be academics or co-curricular activities," he said.

Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy also gave praise to the Pahang Foundation, an organisation that provides higher education institutions with grants, student loans, and scholarships.

He went on to say that the foundation also makes available 2,000 job openings annually in the information technology industry through a job guarantee programme. Additionally, the foundation offers programmes in offshore marine and entrepreneurship in order to boost the employability of Pahang students.

In addition, during the event, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy spent time mingling and conversing with the students who were there. He also presented the ‘Bantuan Prihatin Pahang 2023 Kluster Siswa’ and announced an increase in the financial aid for the ‘Bantuan Prihatin Pahang 2023 Kluster Siswa’ from RM200 to RM300, with a total allocation of RM8.9 million. Last year, a total of 15,637 students were awarded the cash assistance of RM200.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nor Hazelin, a third-year Bachelor of Entrepreneurship student and the President of the Patriot Club Pahang Chapter, expressed her appreciation for the recognition and vowed to continue working to improve UUM's reputation in the future.

UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, was also present at the event to share in the joy of the occasion with the other 120 UUM students who hail from Pahang.

He also had the opportunity to develop a cordial relationship with the Menteri Besar and the leadership of the Pahang state government in an effort to broaden the network of strategic cooperation between UUM and the departments and agencies of the Pahang state government

Students also had the opportunity to ask the Menteri Besar questions during a question-and-answer session.

Also present at the event were the Assistant Director of the Student Development Division along with representatives of the UUM student body.
