UUM STUDENT IS RECIPIENT OF MIA 2020 BEST ACCOUNTING STUDENT AWARD

MIA awardUUM ONLINE: Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) student, Ms. Wong Wei Qi brought honour to Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) when she was announced as the recipient of the Best Accounting Student Award 2020 by the Malaysian Institute of Accounting (MIA) at the MIA 2021 International Conference held online.

As a result of the recognition, Ms. Wei Qi, 23, will receive a professional development scholarship from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) as well as cash amounting to MYR500.

The final-year student from the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, Universiti Utara Malaysia (TISSA-UUM) is currently undergoing industrial training at Boston Consulting Group before graduating from UUM.

According to Ms. Wei Qi, she first received a message from Dr. Siti Seri Delima Abdul Malak, the Coordinator of the TISSA-UUM Professional Program, informing her of her nomination for the award. She then had an online interview with MIA and ICAEW.

She was ecstatic to learn that she had been chosen as the recipient of the MIA Best Accounting Student Award, which recognises students for their achievements in the field of accounting.

“I am grateful to UUM for providing me with the opportunity to be a candidate for this award, as well as to my parents for their unwavering support and guidance. I also constantly push myself to step outside of my comfort zone.

" Remember! It is never too late to begin something if we want to succeed; however, time does not wait for us. It is up to each individual to determine their own success," she said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani, Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Ms. Wong Wei Qi on her success. Her success had indirectly boosted the reputation of UUM.

He also stated that the accounting programme at UUM had received MIA recognition.

“This achievement demonstrates that UUM's accounting programme is comparable to those offered by other world-class universities, and it is consistent with the country's goal of making Malaysia the world's best education hub.

"I hope that today's success will serve as a catalyst for enthusiasm and inspiration for all university denizens to continue to give their best," he said.
