UUM STUDENT CHOSEN AS ACADEMIC FELLOW TO THE UNITED STATES

saniyUUM ONLINE: Another day, another successful UUM student. One of Universiti Utara Malaysia’s esteemed students has further boosted the university’s name at the international level after he was successfully chosen as an Entrepeneurship and Development Academic Fellow under the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), organized by the government of the United States of America to improve regional relationships with ASEAN countries.

The selection of Muhammad Saniy Samsudin, a sixth semester finance student, proves the all-around excellence of UUM students.

The intensive weeks-long programme that will be held at University of Texas in Austin, will congregate Southeast Asian youth leaders from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Brunei, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam, and Malaysia in order to further polish their leadership skills as well as further augment their professional expertise.

UUM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah expressed his pride towards Muhammad Saniy’s achievements in bringing UUM’s name to the global stage.

“His involvement proves UUM’s commitment in providing students with ample opportunities to express their talent, both in co-curricular and academic activities,” Haim Hilman further added.

Muhammad Saniy has stated that he will not waste this golden opportunity considering that he bears the responsibility of carrying UUM’s name at the global stage.

“I would like to also thank the Vice Chancellor and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bakti Hasan Bakri, the Dean of School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB) for providing me with enough support. I pledge to take this opportunity to broaden my horizons and further widen my knowledge,” stated Muhammad Saniy.

In addition, he also stated that the selection to this prestigious programme required clearing various hurdles such as going through the application process, going through tests, and attending an interview with representatives of the ambassador of the United States in Malaysia.

He said, in fact, it took a long time for the results of the selection to be released by e-mail.

Muhammad Saniy’s reputation as an excellent student leader is well-merited due to his outstanding achievements, both academically and in co-curricular activities due to his frequent inovlement in leadership activities.

For example, he previously assumed the post of President of MAS/TNB (MalTen) Student Residential Hall, triumphed as the first place winner of the Business Plan Competition 2021 which was organized by the Economy and Business Faculty of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia, as well as having previously participated in a student exchange programme under the ASEAN International Mobility for Student (AIMS) Program as well as becoming a Maybank student #Mbassador.

The YSEALI Academic Fellowship Programme is an American government-sponsored programme that is granted to either undergraduates or recently graduated students aged between 18 and 25 years old, with this programme entitling its fellows to be brought to the United States.
