UUM-SCB Pact Set To Collaborate In The Organisation Of International Conferences And Meetings

UUM SCB PACT SET TO COLLABORATE IN THE ORGANISATION OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS

The collaboration between Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) through its Research and Innovation Management Centre (RIMC) with the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) will become the incentive for both parties to organise international conferences and meetings.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Ayoib Che Ahmad said the sponsorship and support offered by SCB to UUM will become a stepping stone as well as impetus for academia, particularly researchers to spearhead conferences at international level.

He said, with the cooperation of SCB, both parties must act fast and work hard to ensure the successful implementation of the planned programmes.

"In addition, I want schools to seize the opportunity from this collaboration to organize conferences considering the fact that previously financial constraints turned out to be the obstacle for most schools.

"Previously, there were other schools namely TISSA-UUM and the SOC which organized conferences in Kuching, hence I fervently hope that by doing so it will be another great opportunity for us to bring this cooperation to a higher level," he said at the Sarawak Convention Bureau's (SCB) Cooperation Together With UUM Programme at EDC Hotel and Resorts.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chew Chang Guan , the General Manager, Government Department and Industrial Relations, SCB, said that SCB was proud and honoured to be able to collaborate with UUM through RIMC.

He said SCB would assist and support UUM in organising conferences or meetings particularly in Sarawak in line with the aspiration of developing the state into a highly competitive destination for international meetings.

"With the organisation of conferences, meetings or even seminars would indirectly assist the social development, technology and knowledge transfer as well as bridge the relationship between the two parties.

"I hope the cooperation established between SCB and UUM will be long lasting and we are also keen to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UUM for the benefit of both parties," he said.

SCB was established in 2006 by the Sarawak state government as a non-profit company.

At the programme, Mr. Donny Tan Yee, the Senior Manager, Business Development, SCB also conducted a briefing on SCB's sponsorship in organising conferences and meetings.

Also present were Director of RIMC, Prof. Dr. Nor Aziah Abd Manaf , heads of centres of responsibility and academic staff.
