UUM REMAINS LISTED IN THE QS GLOBAL MBA RANKINGS 2023

L QSThe MBA programme offered by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) remains in the 201-250 position in the QS Global MBA Rankings 2023, thus emerges as the only university in Malaysia listed in the ranking.

The two areas of concentration of the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) MBA graduates, namely consultation and operations management, are listed in positions 91–100 of the QS Global MBA by Career Specialization Rankings 2023, besides being ranked as the top 100 in the world. This rating was determined based on research strengths, employer perceptions, and graduate career paths.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah said, this achievement is indeed outstanding considering the nature of UUM as a university that focuses only on the field of management as compared to other universities that are comprehensive.

He explained that this recognition will definitely attract more international and local students to join UUM MBA programme.

He called this result "a fantastic achievement" as a foundation for promoting the MBA programme, and he expressed optimism that additional programmes will be welcomed as well because students now perceive UUM as being in a special position.

"I would like to express my humble pleasure over the success of UUM for being the only university in Malaysia of which our MBA programme being listed in QSWUR and  ranked 201-250 in the world. Heartiest congratulations to OYAGSB and all its citizens, and also the UUM community who have contributed to this success.

"OYAGSB has established its own reputation for excellence, and the ranking success has indirectly raised the university's profile at the international scene," he said at the 2023 Strategic Plan and Budget Strengthening Workshop which took place in Penang recently.

Meanwhile, UUMKL Provost who is also the Dean of OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar said, this achievement demonstrates that the standards of teaching and learning at OYAGSB are on par with those of top worldwide institutions.

Using Harvard Business Review cases in class, the composition of students who have work experience and hold high positions in prestigious companies, are a few examples of how practical and theoretical knowledge are applied in learning which have contributed to the success and visibility of OYAGSB.

"To participate in this ranking is through an invitation by QS itself, even though we do not have a ranking in the country, we have AACSB and AMBA accreditations which are our strength.

"The full-time MBA programme equips students with essential skills for the ever-evolving global business landscape, so it's no wonder that most students have work experience, in fact some even go on to hold top positions such as CEOs and directors," he said.

In order for UUM to advance and fulfill its aim to guarantee that OYAGSB has Triple Crown status in addition to being a Top Business School, he hopes that the momentum can be sustained.

"We are working toward EQUIS by 2025 in our quest to complete the Triple Crown, and this desire will undoubtedly come true with the accomplishment of AACSB and AMBA.

"Thank you to everyone especially Prof. Dr. Sany Sanuri Mohd Mokhtar who has pioneered this effort for us to forge an excellent reputation in the world ranking especially in boosting student enrollment," he said.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the foremost professional association for management and leadership, besides the AACSB and AMBA, have all given their seals of approval to OYAGSB's MBA programme.

The MBA focuses on creating future business leaders with the abilities to cope effectively and efficiently with the ever-changing business environment.
