UUM RECEIVES ZAKAT CONTRIBUTION AMOUNTING TO MYR33,333.33 FROM MAYBANK BERHAD

UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has received the Public Institution of Higher Education zakat contribution amounting to MYR33,333.33 from Maybank Berhad. The mock cheque was presented by the Director of Maybank Northern Region, Mr. Zolkefli Awang to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani at the Visitors’ Lounge last Monday.

The Vice -Chancellor expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Maybank Berhad for contributing a large sum of zakat contribution. He also assured Maybank that UUM would make the best use of the contribution.

According to him, the university also planned to utilize the money to assist students in need of financial assistance, especially for those from the B40 group, so that no one would be left behind in the pursuit of knowledge.

At the same time, he also welcomed collaborative joint ventures with Maybank Berhad particularly from the northern zone, besides extending invitation to the staff at Maybank to further their studies at UUM through open channels.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zolkefli said through the earnest contribution, the relationship between UUM and Maybank was expected to consolidate more in addition to being able to work together in the future.

According to him, the zakat contribution he handed over to UUM was not the first. Mr. Zolkefli also said that the zakat contribution would vary from year to year as the contribution set aside by Maybank will follow the allocation made by Maybank for the year.

“I fervently hope that Maybank can work with UUM in terms of establishing relations between students and the corporate world directly.

“In doing so, we will have more continuous involvement namely cashless campus and education load for students as well as other programmes that can benefit both parties in the long run,” he said.
