seminar warga emasUUM ONLINE: Sintok – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is prepared to collaborate with the Langkasuka, Kubang Pasu Senior Citizens Welfare Organization (Pewaris) to care for senior citizens in the Kubang Pasu District.

"UUM in this context is ready to offer itself to help care centres for the elderly not only in this district but also to any organisation or establishment that wants to utilise the expertise available among lecturers, staff, and students of UUM," said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah at the opening of the 21st Century Senior Citizens Development and Management Seminar at the Bustani Hotel Hall, Jitra, Kedah.

According to him, UUM believes that smart cooperation among relevant agencies from various perspectives can undoubtedly help senior citizens in need of protection.

Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman continued, "We feel helpless and sad when some senior citizens are abandoned by their children and families when they are old."

"Keep in mind that every mother and father adore their children. As a result, make their hearts rejoice. Do not leave any of them out when they are nearing the end of their lives," he said, his eyes welling up with tears.

As a result, he expressed hope that all parties will band together to assist and make these senior citizens happy.

Meanwhile, Chairman of PEWARIS, Dr. Mohamad Zulkurnai Ghazali stated that the number of participants to the seminar had to be reduced due to limited capacity, but that the number of participants from various government agencies, Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT), care centres for the elderly, and NGOs received very good cooperation.

He added that the seminar hoped to realise the desire of PEWARIS, which was established to realise and apply the values of love, respect, responsibility, and strive to understand the problems of the elderly among the people, particularly a child to parents.

PEWARIS was founded in February 2021 with the goal of assisting single mothers, single mothers with no children.

"Since Kubang Pasu does not currently have a care centre for the elderly, the PEWARIS committee has held talks with a private company, and they have agreed to begin construction of one such centre at the end of this year, with an expected opening date of early 2022," said Dr. Mohamad Zulkurnai.
