UUM MAKES BIG LEAP IN THE EMERGING ECONOMIES UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2022

THE EMERGINGUUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) achieved yet another success when it managed to make a leap of 14 spots to the 107th position in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 which was announced at 12 midnight last night (local time).

In the last edition, UUM was listed at position 121, while in 2020 it was at position 201-250.

Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor, stated that the achievement has moved UUM closer to being listed in the world's top 100 universities.

According to him, the rating has indirectly validated UUM's position as the Eminent Management University not only locally, but also globally.

"My heartfelt congratulations to all campus residents who have demonstrated their seriousness, poured their dedication, and sacrificed time and energy for the cause of this university, which has ultimately yielded a significant impact.

"This achievement is the product of the efforts of all parties," he said, referring to the University's administrators, lecturers, administrative and support staff, students, the Ministry of Higher Education, alumni, government agency partners and industry, as well as the community.

Overall, according to Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman, the result is one of UUM's biggest successes since its participation in THE Emerging Economies University Rankings, which has shown an increase in performance for three consecutive years.

He stated that the UUM Strategic Plan and Gagasan Gemilang Akademia & Admin Holistik (GAGAH) will continue to motivate the university community to raise the UUM brand because the pursuit of excellence has led to the success of UUM.

Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 continues to employ 13 performance indicators for evaluation, which are based on five key indicators: teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (20%), international surveys (10%), and industrial results (10%).

THE Emerging Economies Rankings was introduced in 2014, taking into account and evaluating institutions of higher learning in countries categorised as Advanced Emerging, Secondary Emerging or Frontier by the FTSE Group of the London Stock Exchange.
