UUM LAUNCHES HUMANITARIAN MISSION TO HELP FLOOD VICTIMS

misi banjirUUM ONLINE: Following the massive floods that devastated several states, destroying property and taking lives, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) launched a humanitarian mission to assist the victims.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor said, as a result of the flood disaster, many people lost their assets, such as their homes, vehicles, appliances, and furniture, and some even lost their source of income due to damage to their business premises and equipment.

“To help those affected by the flood, UUM will mobilise a team of volunteers made up of staff and students totalling nearly 150 people, and I urged everyone to do their volunteer work with sincerity.

“We are attempting to assist the communities in Selangor and elsewhere that have been affected by the floods, which is very unfortunate. As a result, we have organised a busload of volunteers to help clean the house. We have also dispatched lorries carrying clean water and food to alleviate the suffering of the victims.

"For those who are unable to contribute their energy to assist the affected community this time, let us all contribute to the flood disaster fund," he said in the Foyer of the Sultan Sallehuddin Chancellery Building, UUM yesterday morning.

According to him, the dedication, love, and enthusiasm displayed by all involved demonstrated that UUM denizens are sensitive to and concerned about the problems and needs of today's society during the flood disaster.

Aside from that, he stated that UUM, in the spirit of the Malaysian family, channelled MYR160,000 in assistance to more than 800 students affected by the flood.

According to him, UUM, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Higher Education, had also established a Flood Operations Room run by the Department of Student Affairs (HEP) to facilitate the collection of data and information pertaining to flood-affected students and their families.

"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all those involved in the effort to uphold the UUM volunteer agenda," he said.

He officiated the Release of the UUM Volunteer Team, the Launch of the Flood Disaster Fund and the Presentation of Mock Check Aid to students affected by the floods.
