UUM Is The Choice Of Institution Of Higher Education For 4,856 New Students Admitted For The 2019/2020 Academic Session

UUM IS THE CHOICE OF INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION FOR 4856 NEW STUDENTS ADMITTED FOR THE 2019 2020 ACADEMIC SESSION

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) welcomed a total of 4,856 new students who will pursue a total of 41 undergraduate programmes for the 2019/2020 academic session.

The new students comprised candidates of Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) with 2,785 admissions, Diploma (488), Matriculation (892), UUM Foundation Studies in Management (201) and Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate (161) and international students (197).

In addition, UUM also welcomed seven students admitted by the National Golf Academy, nine local mobility students and 116 international mobility students.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said of the total number of students taken through UPU and the UUM Centre for Foundation Studies in Management, 74 percent comprised 3,334 female students and another 26 percent was male students.

He said that out of that total, 4.3 percent of 185 students came from special channels matched by e-Kasih data by UPU.

In addition, UUM was also the university of choice for international students to further their higher education. Hence, UUM had received the most admissions from Indonesia (124) and China (30), followed by Somalia (11), Thailand (9), Yemen (8), Nigeria 5), Algeria (3), Uzbekistan (2), Zimbabwe (2) and other countries.

"In terms of programme with the largest number of enrolment, 388 students have chosen to pursue the Bachelor of Business Administration programme, followed by Bachelor of Accounting programme (328) and finally, Bachelor of Science in Economics (265).

"UUM also has the Bachelor of Philosophy, Law and Business (BPLB) programme that successfully demonstrates 100 percent graduate marketability. This programme is offered to outstanding students who earn at least 3.5 Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) and admission of students number in 30 for every admission session," he said.

Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir said that for the 2019/2020 academic session,  the 219 students who were offered admission obtained the CGPA of 4.0 comprising 128 students who will pursue the Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Law (32) and Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) (19 ) with candidates obtaining CGPA of 3.36 for the current admission.

In addition, he said the Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) programme and Bachelor of Laws programme had the highest CGPA which was 3.91, followed by a Bachelor of Accounting with an average of 3.90.

"Not forgetting, 15 students with different abilities and nine aboriginal students from various states will also pursue their respective undergraduate programmes at UUM.

"Overall, as of 25 August, UUM has a total of 28,866 students, 23,907 of them are undergraduates while 4,959 are postgraduate students," he said.
