UUM DISABLED ATHLETES WIN BRONZE MEDALS

atlet okuUUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - Archery athletes with disabilities from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) recently finished third in the Open Men's Recurve Team Category at the 2022 Circuit 2 National Para Archery Championship.

Student of the Bachelor of Law programme, Mr Nek Muhammad Sofwan Najim Nek Ali, represented the state of Kedah in the tournament which ran from 29 September to 2 October.

According to Mr Nek Muhammad Sofwan, he did not expect his debut at the 2022 Para Nationals stage to result in a bronze medal for Kedah.

"This medal is not only a personal best achievement for me, but a gift to the state of Kedah and to the University, particularly to the Vice-Chancellor who has given me a lot of support and encouragement.

"Now, I will focus on training for Para SUKMA XX MSN 2022 which will take be held next November," he said.

Mr Nek Muhammad Sofwan will be joined at the tournament by two other students, Mr Abdul Rahman Muhamad Rasidi from the Bachelor of Science (Business Mathematics) programme and Ms Nurin Irdina Jasmine from the Bachelor of Science in Economics programme.

Overall, the Kedah archery team took home four gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

Previously, Mr Nek Muhammad Sofwan received a wheelchair and RM2,000 in cash from the Student Support and Services Division (SSSD), Student Affairs Department (JHEP), which were presented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.
