UUM ASCENDS IN THE QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2022

qswurUUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to rise in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) 2022, where it is ranked 511-520, up from 531-540 the previous year which in one fell swoop making it Malaysia’s only public university to rise.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani stated that the achievement demonstrated UUM's continuous and consistent improvement.  According to him the efforts made over the last three years since 2019 have paid off through measures such as improving work quality, corporate agenda, industry relationships, branding campaigns, and strengthening English proficiency among staff and students.

He stated that the rise in rankings was a significant and meaningful achievement for all UUM denizens and the country as a whole. Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir reiterated that the success was the culmination of the cooperation and commitment of all UUM members of staff who strive to be among the best in the world as well as Asia.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, this was a double success for UUM as it demonstrated not only a significant rise in the QSWUR but also a massive leap in the recently released Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2021.

“We will ensure and continue to strive to elevate UUM's position in QSWUR to a more esteemed level.

"UUM will continue to mobilize its energy and expertise to further improve the quality of work, corporate agenda, relations with industry, branding campaigns and strengthen English proficiency among staff and students so that UUM continues to catch the attention of the world," he said.

QSWUR adopts six indicators in rating global universities namely academic reputation, employer reputation, citation per academic staff, ratio of academic staff to students, percentage of international students and percentage of international academic staff.

This time, a total of 1673 universities were evaluated, with only 1300 universities from 93 countries being listed by QS.
