UUM And UGC Bangladesh Pact Set To Develop Human Capital Among Academia

UUM AND UGC BANGLADESH PACT SET TO DEVELOP HUMAN CAPITAL AMONG ACADEMIA

The sealing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) is expected to help develop human capital among its academic staff.

UUM was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim while UGC was represented by a member of its Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, signed the MoU at UUMKL recently.

In her speech Prof. Dr. Yusnidah expressed her heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to UGC for selecting UUM as one of its strategic partners in its efforts to make UUM the leader in human capital development among academic staff in Bangladesh in enhancing their professionalism.

"This includes raising their level of education to post-graduate levels and short-term executive training.

"I hope this cooperation will continue and UGC will assist UUM to expand its cooperation to other universities under the auspices of UGC in Bangladesh," said her who represented the Vice-Chancellor.

The signing of the MoU was the result of a visit made by Prof. Dr. Yusnidah and Director of the Centre of International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC) to Bangladesh in May.

UGC Bangladesh was established in 1972 with the aim of meeting the academic and financial needs and demands of six existing universities in Bangladesh.

UGC's current function is to provide funding to universities, facilitate the development of higher education systems in Bangladesh with the primary aim of improving the quality of tertiary education (post-secondary education and higher education), promoting advanced research and development and improving university governance.

In addition, the UGC is responsible for developing higher education and quality assurance policies to meet international standards and to provide appropriate advice to the government.
