TUANKU SULTAN OF KEDAH PRESENTED WITH HONORARY DOCTORAL DEGREE AND TWO NEW PRO-CHANCELLORS INAUGURATED

UUM ONLINE: Alor Setar – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) made important history when His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman who is also the Tuanku Chancellor of UUM was presented with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Administration and Public Development) in conjunction with the Royal Convocation Ceremony and the Inauguration of the Pro-Chancellors of UUM at Istana Anak Bukit yesterday.

His Royal Highness Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin, the Raja Muda of Kedah as the Pro-Chancellor of UUM presented the honorary degree to His Royal Highness the Tuanku Sultan of Kedah who has been the Chancellor of UUM since 2017.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the presentation of the honorary degree was in appreciation and recognition to the patronage and contribution of His Royal Highness Tuanku as the Chancellor of UUM, especially in the development of education in the state of Kedah.

He further reiterated that UUM's excellent achievements from the beginning of its establishment until now are due to the love of Kedah Palace towards knowledge institutions.

"The special relationship between the 'palace and the university' will continue to remain as a manifestation of the loyalty of UUM denizens to the King and the Nation as stipulated in the meaning of the yellow circle of the UUM logo.

"In addition, His Royal Highness who is very passionate and devoted to the field of education has also emphasized on the importance of acquiring knowledge, especially in the current era of technological progress. His Royal Highness has even commanded that the University set up a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centre to enable knowledge in these fields be disseminated to all levels of society particularly to the those at the grassroots," he said.

At the same ceremony, His Royal Highness Dato' Seri DiRaja Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin, the Tunku Laksamana of Kedah and His Highness Tengku Tan Sri (Dr.) Dato' Paduka Mahaleel Tengku Ariff were inaugurated as the new Pro-Chancellors of UUM.

The inauguration was declared by Tuanku Chancellor, His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.

Also present at the ceremony were Her Royal Highness Sultanah Maliha Binti Almarhum Tengku Ariff, the Tuanku Sultanah of Kedah and Her Royal Highness Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Binti Mohamad Ariff, the Raja Puan Muda of Kedah. The Menteri Besar of Kedah, Tuan Haji Muhammad Sanusi Md. Nor; Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad and the Chairman of the University Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Shukor Mahfar were also present to witness the Royal Convocation Ceremony and the Inauguration of the Pro-Chancellors of UUM.
