TISSA-UUM STUDENT CONTINUES TO MAKE WAVES BOTH NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY

pui munUUM ONLINE: Once again, Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) student, Ms Looi Pui Mun from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM) brought glory to UUM with her latest achievement when she secured the third position in the world after she obtained the highest marks in Malaysia for the Advanced Performance Management (APM) paper which she sat for in December of 2020.

Last year, Ms. Looi Pui Mun obtained the highest marks in Malaysia and came in seventh in the world in the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) examination for the month of March. Later in September, she came in third place after she obtained the highest marks in Malaysia for the Strategic Business Leader (SBL) paper.

The semester seven student expressed her delight for being able to obtain the highest marks in Malaysia and came in third in the world for the APM paper which incidentally reflects what real management accounting is all about.

According to her, the core of Advanced Performance Management (APM) is strategic management to achieve the objectives of an organisation.

"Therefore, when sitting for the APM paper, I need to evaluate the performance of the management system of an organisation. I need to examine whether the management system is appropriately run in the context of the organisation.

"Compared to the SBR paper which is more based on external financial reporting, APM is an examination that tests the analytical power of candidates to solve internal problems of the organisation," said she who will sit for another examination by June to complete the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) programme.

Sharing the secret of her success in obtaining the highest marks in all the exams, Ms Pui Mun said she would review and practice doing the past year questions.

She also said that one must possess high tenacity and commitment. According to her both traits were crucial in balancing the demands and stress that come with sitting for the ACCA examination while at the same time pursuing a degree at UUM. As such she would always set the ACCA learning goals based on the timeline until the examination.

"I hope this achievement will benefit and inspire others to continue to achieve their ambitions and goals. I hope I have made UUM TISSA proud,” said she who is also the Chairman of ACCA Student Ambassador UUM and a participant of the ACCA Accelerate Programme Scheme since 2019.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani expressed his elation on the achievement attained by a fellow UUM TISSAN.  He further reiterated that the success brought about by Ms. Pui to the nation in one fell swoop proved that the UUM accounting programme in affiliation with ACCA was increasingly becoming the programme of choice of students from within and outside the country.

According to him the achievement would also indirectly prove that the accounting programme at UUM was on par with other world leading universities and this would also be in accordance with the nation’s aspiration of making Malaysia the world's best education hub.

Students who pursue the accounting programmes at TISSA-UUM receive maximum exemption from ACCA through the ACCA Accelerate Scheme and these students only need to sit for the remaining four ACCA professional examinations.

Students at TISSA-UUM who are pursuing a Bachelor of Accounting at UUM Sintok and Kuala Lumpur campuses can concurrently pursue an accounting professional body programme with their accounting degree programme.
