THREE SIBLINGS FROM A SET OF QUADRUPLETS AND OUTSTANDING PERSON WITH DIFFERENT ABILITIES ARE AMONGST THOSE LOOKING FORWARD TO START THEIR STUDIES AT UUM

Despite having to be far away from their family, the aspiration to become lecturers has continued to excite three siblings from a set of quadruplet from Johore when they chose to accept the offer to pursue their higher education at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) for the 2019/2020 academic session.

The first of the quadruplet, Ms Intan Nur Liyana Suhaimi and the youngest of the four, Ms Intan Nur Syazrina will pursue the Bachelor of Counselling programme, while the third of the four, Ms Intan Nur Fazrina will pursue the Bachelor of Business Administration programme.  Meanwhile, their second sibling, Ms Intan Nur Diyana was offered a place at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

"We have never been apart since we were young and living apart from each other will definitely leave a mark on us as quadruplets, however with our dreams in mind, the four of us will have to console each other.

"My younger sibling, Intan Nur Diyana enrolled into UiTM on 25 August  and almost every night we would make video calls to find out how  each of us were doing,"  she said when met at the Petronas Student Residential Hall (INASIS) Orientation Programme.

Ms Intan Nur Syazrina further added that they were elated to be able to continue their studies at UUM despite having to live far away from their family and Intan Nur Diyana, their second sibling.

According to her, UUM was the first choice of university they chose to pursue their studies however only three of them accepted the admission offer.

However, she said they were eternally grateful for being given the opportunity to further their studies at tertiary level and hoped that their ambition to become a lecturer would be realised.

In addition, UUM also welcomed a pair of twins from Kelantan, Ms Yap Houng Minn and Ms Yap Houng Ying who will both pursue the Bachelor of Science (Multimedia) programme.

Meanwhile, being fully dependent on the wheelchair did not prevent Ms Nur Nabilah Shaik Abdul Jalil from Alor Setar from accepting an offer to study at UUM.

The eldest child of Mr Shaik Abdul Jalil Abu Tahir and Mdm Shahina Bagum Syed Mohamed has had spinal problems from an early age that made it difficult for her to walk.

"I am delighted to receive an offer of admission to study at UUM which was my first choice when filling the UPU form, even more so when the university provides full facilities for students with disabilities such as myself.

"To date, I still have physiotherapy treatments every week, but I am grateful that UUM has allowed an assistant hired by my family to accompany me to physiotherapy every week at INASIS," said her who will pursue the Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) programme.

Ms Nur Nabilah has been suffering from 'spina befida' since birth but her condition worsened at the age of 12 after experiencing a fall in the bathroom.

The eldest of the six siblings was one of the best students of Sixth Form at Sultan Sallehuddin College with a CGPA of 4.0 for the previous STPM examination.

UUM has welcomed a total of 4,856 new students who will be pursuing the various 41 undergraduate programmes for the 2019/2020 academic session.
