THE UNIVERSITY'S SHARED VALUES BECOME THE PILLARS OF STRENGTH

watikah penjawatUUM ONLINE: The denizens of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) are reminded to uphold common values as the pillar of strength in order to work honestly in advancing knowledge and educating the nation for the benefit of the university.

Prof. Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, Vice-Chancellor, stated that in order to uphold the motto "Knowledge, Virtue, Service," UUM residents, particularly those appointed to key positions, must recognise that the task at hand is not only substantial, but also very heavy.

According to him, all religions in the world emphasise the importance of integrity in carrying out duties based on eight noble values, including being truthful, trustworthy, fair, responsible, transparent, efficient, and wise.

Simultaneously, he stated, the application of the seven common values, which include excellence, mutual respect and acceptance, communication, gratitude, continuous learning, integrity, and self-reflection, and two additional values, vision and spirit, is a call to all to give their best contribution and should be appreciated by every UUM staff member.

“First, excellence requires believing in and pursuing perpetual creativity, innovation, collaboration, and exploration in order to remain relevant, referenced, and respected.

“Second, mutual respect and acceptance imply that we value kindness, mutual respect, and love in order to foster harmonious relationships among staff, students, the community, and nature. This value conveys the message that there is nothing unique about being Vice-Chancellor if he does not provide the best service possible,” he made the remarks during yesterday morning's Presentation of Letters of Appointment to UUM Key-Office Bearers for the Year 2022 at the Seri Angsana Hall, EDC-UUM.

Third, communication entails believing in and pursuing effective and open communication among staff members. The purpose of the position is not to exert pressure on anyone, but to use it to foster closer friendships.

According to Prof. Dr Haim, he welcomes the differences of opinion but supports them with manners and demeanour so that differences can be embroidered with love in order to find the best solution.

Following that are the values of gratitude, perseverance, self-reflection, and integrity. Integrity is critical in elevating the university to the highest level by ensuring complete honesty, sincerity, and transparency in the performance of responsibilities and the production of work.

“As office bearers who are also members of the university's management team, the values of integrity and good governance must be embodied in order to contribute to the noble values that shape the personality when accepting responsibility.

"I hope that all staff members can work together and strengthen their faith and piety toward Allah by obeying all of Allah's commands and abstaining from His prohibitions while performing their duties at this university that we love," he said.

A total of 58 UUM employees were presented with their respective letters of appointment as key university officers.

Meanwhile, Dr Jauriyah Shamsuddin, the newly appointed Director of the Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (CEDI), expressed gratitude to UUM for empowering her to take on the enormous responsibility of driving excellence, putting UUM on a firm footing to become Malaysia's preeminent management university.

She was ecstatic to hear the Vice-speech, Chancellor's which was brimming with enthusiasm and a commitment to working together to meet the demands and challenges ahead.

“Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, we will work collaboratively with CEDI to leverage existing experience to develop UUM students and graduates into successful entrepreneurs.

“Everyone understands that the post-pandemic era of job creators is superior to the era of job seekers, which means we must develop students into entrepreneurs, which means we must strive to fulfil UUM's vision and mission of entrepreneurship development "' she said.

Mr. Mohd Fairus Abd Majid, the newly appointed Manager of the Management Museum, stated that the trust and confidence bestowed will be acted upon, including cultivating the seven common values presented by the Vice Chancellor.

"I hope to strengthen the museum's concept and function as a source of knowledge and a centre for attracting visitors to UUM, which will have a positive effect on campus residents and the surrounding community," he said.
