THE ICC NEW HORIZON CONVENTION SHOWCASES NEW IDEAS AND INNOVATION

kik 21UUM ONLINE: For the first time this year, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) recently hosted the Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) New Horizon Convention virtually via Webex.

The ICC New Horizon represents the transition from the Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) to the Cultivation and Empowerment of Innovation in the Public Sector via the ICC New Horizon (ICC).

The ICC New Horizon Convention was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor. He congratulated all the teams that took on the challenge of competing in the ICC Convention this time around despite it being held virtually.

According to him, the online implementation of the ICC New Horizon Convention aimed to strengthen staff development while also moulding fellow participants to be more active, creative, and innovative, as well as maintain a healthy social life despite the pandemic.

According to him, ICC previously concentrated on aspects of the project's production process, whereas ICC New Horizon concentrated on the outcome, impact, and potential for project expansion in order to facilitate replication, commercialization, and participation in innovation competitions.

The ICC New Horizon 2021 competition, organised by the Institute of Quality Management (IPQ), provides an opportunity for UUM faculty, staff, and external organisations to showcase their ideas and innovations.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr Sany Sanuri Mohd Mokhtar, Director of IPQ, stated that innovation is critical to the public sector because it can result in positive outcomes for organisations and clients who use the service.

He stated that Malaysia is ranked 33rd in the world in terms of innovation, while Switzerland is ranked first.

He added that innovation is critical to becoming a developed country, particularly in terms of efficient and effective management.

A total of 24 teams competed for awards at the UUM 2021 ICC New Horizon Convention (ICC), which was organised for the first time online by IPQ.

A total of 15 groups from the various UUM departments and Schools participated in the convention, while another 9 groups were from external organisations. 

The School of Creative Industry Management and Performing Arts (SCIMPA) won the Service Delivery Innovation Category and the i-LIBs Group from the Kedah Public Library Corporation was named the champion of the Social Innovation Category.

The D'BACA group from Kedah Public Library Corporation came in second place in the Service Delivery Innovation Category, while the LARVICIDE BOMBERS group from Gopeng Perak Matriculation College won the Social Innovation Category.

Additionally, the PANTHERA Group from UUM Sports Centre won the Best Visual Award, the op_por group from Penor Prison in Kuantan, Pahang won the Best Creativity and Innovation Award for Service Delivery Innovation, the MR POSITIF group from Dusun Dato' Murad Prison in Melaka won the Best Social Innovation Creativity and Innovation Award, and the LARVICIDE BOMBERS from Perak Matriculation College won the Best Social Innovation Creativity and Innovation.
