TANJUNG DAWAI TO BE REVITALISED AS A FAMOUS TOURIST ATTRACTION

tg dawaiUUM ONLINE: Kuala Muda - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor, paid a working visit to Tanjung Dawai yesterday to inspect the infrastructure located at the tourist attraction area in an effort to revitalise the economic sector there.

The visit was then followed by a courtesy call on Dato' Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Minister of Rural Development, to assist the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) in the agenda of economic development and education of rural communities, as well as the development of Kedah's tourism sector, particularly in Tanjung Dawai.

During the working visit, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman met with the Sungai Petani Kedah Municipal Council (MPSPK) which included the Secretary of MPSPK, Mdm. Sunita Abdul Aziz; Director of the Town Planning Department, Mdm. Rohani Abu Bakar; Director of Community Development, Mr. Mohd Amin Ali and Engineer at the Engineering Department, Mr. Mohd Zahir Salleh to discuss the development of infrastructure in Tanjung Dawai, including the current state of infrastructure and proposed needs for improving facilities in Tanjung Dawai, including transportation elements that require serious and immediate attention by the government, be it at the federal or state level.

According to Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman, Tanjung Dawai has the potential to become a tourist attraction on par with other attractions in Malaysia that can be developed and will be able to drive the country's and the state of Kedah's economic development.

During the meeting, he expressed UUM's desire to assist MPSPK and the Kedah state government in terms of research and community activities that can contribute to the development of tourist attractions for economic vitality in rural areas, particularly Tanjung Dawai.

According to him, UUM is prepared to conduct a study on the restructuring of Tanjung Dawai development and geopark development policies, as well as to hold a human capital development programme and to promote sustainable tourism.

He stated that UUM will use its expertise to assist in not only developing Tanjung Dawai as a tourist destination, but also in improving the socioeconomic conditions of rural residents by reviving long-stalled infrastructure development projects.

In addition, issues and problems affecting the Tanjung Dawai area were discussed, including social issues.

Additionally, Ir. Md. Uzairin Saidin, Director of the Development and Maintenance Department (JPP), and Mr. Mohd Zamri Ahmad, Director of the Chancellery, also participated in the discussion.
