STUDENTS CHOOSE TO RETURN TO UUM FOR THE CONDUCIVE LEARNING ATMOSPHERE OF CAMPUS

UUM ONLINE: To ensure that teaching and learning sessions run smoothly and are not interrupted, a total of 424 students from the state of Kedah have returned to campus.

A student of the Bachelor of Information Technology programme, Ms Nurul Amirah Jasni said she chose to return to campus because she wanted to gain access to the internet connection and the conducive learning environment.

According to her, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, students could count on the fast and uninterrupted internet connection found on UUM campus.

Furthermore, she said from the time when the COVID-19 pandemic began, many classes had been conducted online. As such, with the fast internet connection, it would make it easier for her to focus on learning without encountering any problems.

“I am grateful and thankful to the Ministry of Higher Education and UUM for allowing students like me to return to campus to continue our teaching and learning sessions (TnL) online in a conducive manner.

"While we, the students are allowed to come back to campus, all the directives and standard operating procedures (SOP) set by both the Government and the University are still given priority so as to prevent any transmission of COVID-19 infection from happening on UUM campus," said the Semester six student from Alor Setar.

Meanwhile, Semester five student, Mr Afnan Syamil Mohammad Zamri said before he returned to UUM campus, he made sure that he prepared and brought along equipment such as face masks and disinfectant fluids as precaution measures.

According to him, all the preparation he made would ensure that he could continue his TnL sessions in a safe and healthy manner.

The student of the Bachelor of Multimedia programme added that he chose to return to campus despite living in Jitra because he felt that studying online at home did not help much

"Besides that, I miss the atmosphere on campus, so I decided to grab the opportunity to return as a student before I graduate," he said.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the welfare and well-being of students had always been the priority so that the TnL sessions can be conducted smoothly and in accordance with the SOPs set by the National Security Council and the Ministry of Higher Education. This was also in line with the aspiration of moulding UUM to become the Eminent Management University of global standard.

"I thank the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad for the concern and the support they have rendered in helping to ease the difficulties experienced by students in institutions of higher education during the current health pandemic, "he said.

A total of 1,779 students returned to campus physically in stages starting with students from the state of Kedah, followed by 334 students from the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang on 6 March; 120 students (Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya) on 7 March; 183 students (Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak) on 19 March; 346 students (Penang and Perak) on 20 March; and 372 students (Johor and Selangor) on 21 March.
