STUDENT WITH DISABILITY DESIRES TO IMPROVE FAMILY’S FUTURE

pelajr OKUUUM ONLINE: Alor Setar - Despite having a physical condition, the dream of a student suffering from a nerve disease that has led his right leg to be amputated to continue his studies at the ivory tower is finally becoming a reality.

Mr. Nek Muhammad Sofwan Najim Nek Ali, a semester one student of the Bachelor of Law programme, stated that no words can express his happiness save thanks to Allah for paving the way for him to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer.

According to him, he was thrilled when he received an offer to pursue his studies at UUM in the study programme he was interested in, and he was also really satisfied since he was able to make his parents happy with the achievement.

The fourth of six siblings remained anxious to move forward, unconcerned about his physical limitations.

"Despite the fact that I am a person with a disability, I am motivated to learn and participate in sports, and I am looking forward to my first day and on campus. In addition, I have completed two doses of vaccination.

"I want to study hard in order to improve my family's future for the better by becoming a successful lawyer," he stated, aiming to follow in the footsteps of his father, who was a syariah lawyer in the past.

On a similar note, Mr. Nek Muhammad Sofwan praised and thanked UUM and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, for personally delivering the offer letter and donation to him and his family.

"Alhamdulillah, I was able to present the UUM admission offer letter to two students, including Mr. Nek Muhammad Sofwan, who is disabled," said Prof. Dr Haim Hilman.

Prof. Dr Haim Hilman expressed his admiration for Mr. Nek Muhammad Sofwan's will to succeed in his studies, as well as his pride in having chosen UUM to pursue his studies in legal studies.

"In sha Allah, we will assist in whatever way necessary to ensure that the ambitions of a young man like Mr. Nek Muhammad Sofwan to become a great lawyer one day are achieved," he stated after visiting the student at Taman Nuri recently.

Also present were the Director of Student Services and Support Division (SSSD), Assoc. Prof. Dr Rajwani Md. Zain; Director of UUM Corporate Communication, Mr. Mohd Fairus Abdul Majid and officials from the Department of Student Affairs.
