UUM ONLINE:  To ensure continuous quality management at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), SIRIM QAS is currently conducting a three-day SIRIM QAS MS ISO 9001: 2015 Surveillance Audit exercise which began yesterday.

The surveillance audit, led by Senior Auditor Mdm. Maznah Mat Isa along with two auditors, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Abd Lataf Daud and Dr Shahanif Hasan, was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, in the Vice-Chancellor's Meeting Room.

Prof. Dr Mohd Foad stated that the audit process aims to verify that UUM has successfully implemented a quality management system within the defined certification scope.

He emphasised that UUM remains open to any suggestions and feedback put forth by SIRIM for the purpose of improving its quality management system.

"To date, over the past 22 years, UUM has continuously improved its Quality Management System by enhancing work processes to foster a culture of quality among its staff. This effort includes aligning with ISO standards.

“In addition, UUM has also conducted internal audits in accordance with the requirements of the MS ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System. Furthermore, all audit findings were discussed during the University Quality Council Meeting on 12 September," he said.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed hope that the three-day audit will result in positive outcomes, thanks to the commitment and cooperation of the UUM community toward the SIRIM audit team.

A total of nine centres of authority and schools, including the Institute of Quality Management, the School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS), the Islamic Centre, the Security Department, the School of Education, U-Assist, the Co-operative and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (CEDI), the School of Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management (STHEM), and the Zakat Research and Innovation Institute (IPIZ), were involved in the audit process.

Meanwhile, Mdm. Maznah explained that the surveillance audit aims to evaluate ongoing adherence to the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system standards, specifically focusing on customer-focused quality management.

She noted that the auditing was conducted within the certification scope, including the design and development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (OYAGSB), the provision of educational services to undergraduate and postgraduate students (OYAGSB), and research allocation, publication, library services, and other support services.

UUM once again received MS ISO 9001:2015 certification for another three years following the audit conducted by the SIRIM QAS audit team in November 2022.
