SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY TO BE A SUCCESSFUL PERSON

baling uum prihatinUUM ONLINE: Baling - New students at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) have been urged not to be ashamed of their humble beginnings if they want to be successful individuals in the future.

According to Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, is performing the duties as Vice-Chancellor, there will be roadblocks along the path, but those should not be used as an excuse for individuals to fail not only in education, but also in the pursuit of ambition.

"From now on, be resolute to study hard and regard the opportunity to attend university as a precious opportunity for self-preparation; it is not impossible for a student from Baling to enrol into Oxford or Harvard this time.

"UUM is prepared to assist in student preparation in order to ensure the continued expansion of agendas by expanding programmes that reach out to the community in an effort to demonstrate the university's role in assisting the community economy," he said yesterday during the UUM Prihatin Santuni Mahasiswa Anak-Anak Baling programme at Sultan Sallehuddin Mosque Hall, Tok Bandar, Pulai.

At the programme, a total of 24 new students received admission letters to UUM for the 2021/2022 academic session. They also received used laptops courtesy of the Baling Parliamentary Denizens Service Centre that were presented by Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.

UUM, as a repository of knowledge, will continue to strive to be accessible to the community. As such, he chose to personally meet with members of the community in order for them to understand how concerned UUM is about students in the B40 group.

According to him, the programme will demonstrate the dedication of UUM toward the people of Baling. He also emphasised UUM's commitment to preparing the children of Baling to be not only the pride of their parents and community, but also for the state of Kedah and the country.

He stated that regardless of ethnicity or religion, he wishes for all Malaysians to achieve their educational goals while always remembering UUM as the institution that assisted and supported them along their path to success.

Meanwhile, Dato' Seri Abdul Azeez expressed his appreciation to UUM for showing concern for the people of the district of Baling. According to him, UUM's strategic partnership with the district would significantly aid in its development, notably in the area of education.

Additionally, he emphasised that as a Baling native, the opportunity to enter the ivory tower should be seized because the opportunity does not knock twice. He urged the selected students to work diligently to become successful individuals and to aid their families once they achieved success. He also advised the students from the B40 family not to be ashamed of their roots or to forget them.

"In addition, the presence of UUM in Baling marks the beginning of a collaboration aimed at bolstering the district's tourism and agriculture sectors," he added.

Mr. Mohd Anas Anaqi Mahali and Ms. Nor Wan Tasnim Shongkee, who obtained letters of acceptance to the Bachelor of Applied History and Bachelor of Accounting programmes, respectively, expressed their joy at being able to study at UUM and pledged to study diligently.
