MyIDC Helps The Professional Management Academic Personnel Enhance Management Of Organisation And Leadership Skills

"Not all professional management personnel have the basics of organizational management and leadership, hence with the organisation of the International Deans' Course Malaysian Chapter (MyIDC) has opened the eyes of those involved to train themselves with the necessary skills," said MyIDC coach, Assoc. Prof Dr Ariffin Abdul Mutalib.

Assoc. Prof Dr Ariffin Abdul Mutalib, a lecturer at the School of Multimedia Technology and Communication (SMMTC) said that at Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs), MyIDC was developed and provided Deans and Directors of Institutes with the avenue to hone their skills in the aspects of management and leadership.

He said Phase 1 of MyIDC encompassed university governance modules, faculty strategic management, entrepreneurship at university, planning of project action, leadership and change management, while Phase 2 and 3 will include six modules including conflict management, communication, human resource management and financial management.

"As the programme coach, MyIDC is seen as a successful platform for enriching the skills needed by the Deans especially not just in terms of acquiring new knowledge but also to foster relations and instil the spirit of camaraderie among fellow participants.

"I am excited and delighted to have been chosen as the coach for MyIDC held at UUM this time because MyIDC programme is very prestigious in the development of the Dean profession as well as the development of humanity," he said.

He added that throughout the programme, lectures were conducted through various presentation techniques and the techniques practiced could be used by participants in their respective job affairs.

During the 10 days at UUM, MyIDC participants also had the opportunity to participate in a sharing session with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani at the Senate Room.

During the session, Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir enlightened the participants with UUM governance. He also shared information about the university’s achievements at national and international levels which were successfully attained through strategic planning that in turn attracted MyIDC participants to ask questions.

Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir also informed participants of the objective of the establishment of UUM by the then Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad  which was to make UUM the centre of excellence for educational management, become the centre of reference in all matters pertaining to management and a leading resource centre in the field of management.

According to him, to ensure that UUM was on track, the management of the university created a transformation plan which was divided into two, the UUM Strategic Plan Phase 1 (2011-2015) that focused on efforts to become the management university in Malaysia meanwhile the UUM Strategic Plan Phase 2 (2016-2020) emphasized on the internationalization of UUM.

Throughout MyIDC which began on 30th.
