Muhammad Ikhmal Basry Emerged As The Champion Of The New Era Hainan Junior Golf Tour 2019

MUHAMMAD IKHMAL BASRY EMERGED AS THE CHAMPION OF THE NEW ERA HAINAN JUNIOR GOLF TOUR 2019

University Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to move up a notch in the sport of golf once again when its fellow golf athlete from the UUM National Golf Academy (AGNUUM), Mr. Muhammad Ikhmal Basry was named the Champion of the New Era Hainan Junior Golf Tour 2019 (Malaysia Leg) for the U19 Men's Category at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, Shah Alam, recently.

The 18-year-old lad showed consistent performance after scoring 70,71,73 (3 under par), outperforming the other contestants.

Muhammad Ikhmal said he was grateful for his success despite having to face the intense and numerous competitors in the tournament.

According to him, to ensure that victory was in his favour, he focused solely on the game and strove to showcase excellent performances throughout the tournament.

"This success has been my second since representing UUM last year and I have also represented the country in Myanmar at the ASEAN University Games 2018 where I came in fifth for individual events and second for the group event.

"My hope is now to continue playing golf representing the university and the country in the future, as well as improving the quality of my game from time to time," said him who began golfing at the tender age of seven.

Muhammad Ikhmal's victory in one fell swoop qualified him to participate in the Amateur Golf Championship in China which will surely bring about positive impact on his career.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muhammad Azren Noor Azam and Mr. Sazanur Iman Salenin who also showed exceptional performance at the tournament finished second and fourth respectively in the U23 Men's Category.

Meanwhile, the Director of AGNUUM, Assoc. Prof Dr Azman Yasin expressed his elation with the success of Mr Muhammad Ikhmal and he regarded the success as timely, proving to competitors that AGNUUM golf students were capable of stirring up the local golf scene.

He also expressed hope that some of the AGNUUM students in the national golf tour would receive the attention of the relevant parties so that they could be afforded with the opportunity to represent the country at international tournaments including the 2019 SEA Philippines Games in November.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani also congratulated all the players on their successful performance at the tournament. He also gave his fullest support to the team which in turn accentuated the athletes’ vigour to ensure that the university's name will continue to shine at the highest level.
