MAINTAIN INTEGRITY FOR THE FUTURE OF YOUNG LEADERS

MPPUUM ONLINE: Members of the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Student Representative Council (SRC) 2020/2021 session have been reminded to maintain integrity in carrying out the trust bestowed upon them, regardless of where they are.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor, thanked the UUM SRC leadership for their unwavering commitment, as well as sacrificing time and energy for one term to shoulder the responsibility as student leaders.

In his speech, he expressed hope that the close bond formed with members of the UUM SRC will lead to them becoming more involved as a harmonious family capable of forging a strong identity and unbreakable integrity.

He said this at the 'Lambaian Kasih Sekalung Budi' Programme held at the Multipurpose Hall, Student Accommodation Centre (SAC), on Wednesday.

He stated in his speech that the opportunity to be a leader at such a young age is extremely valuable.

"Be like diamonds, which are extremely valuable gems. It is valuable because it undergoes a tremendous stress process, and as a result, it becomes a very valuable gem due to its unique sparkle.

Additionally, great leaders are the last to benefit from what is right in front of them. A wise society appoints leaders, not those who are wealthy, but those who are willing to make sacrifices for those they lead," he explained.

Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman also expressed hope that the student leadership would continue to serve the community and use the valuable experience as a springboard to improve the quality of their leadership in the future.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muhammad A'linur Ahlam Abu Bakar, former President of the UUM SRC, thanked the organising committee for organising the awards ceremony and hoped that their services had aided UUM students to some extent.

"I hope that in the future, the SRC will be led by strong principles that will fight for student rights while also looking after the welfare of students at this university," he said.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Assoc. Prof. Dr Hendrik Lamsali; Dean of Student Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr Massudi Mahmuddin; and Director of the Department of Student Affairs, Mr. Noor Azman Yusof.
