LOVE AND DO YOUR ALMA MATER PROUD

Graduates have been reminded to continue to love the alma mater and continue to do Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) proud after leaving this university.

UUM COB's Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff said the success of graduates is the turning point for them in terms of profession, satisfaction and self-worth or achievement in life.

He also said that graduates can also be proud of UUM's successes; indeed the achievements and recognitions received have widely contributed to the UUM brand to enable it to continue to compete in the international academic arena.

"I fervently hope that the knowledge and experience gained will meet the needs of graduates in strengthening their management skills in order to address the ever increasing challenges they come face to face with in dealing and managing matters that are customs related.

"The knowledge gained in the classroom is not an absolute solution to all the issues faced at the workplace, but then again this knowledge can guide graduates towards improving their way of thinking, identifying and looking at issues and finding solutions and improvements in order to assist the top management," he said at the Presentation of the Business Management Executive Diploma (DEPP) Ceremony held at EDC Hotels & Resorts yesterday.

He who represented the Vice-Chancellor said UUM and the College of Business in particular are committed to providing academic opportunities to working groups in hopes to produce more highly-educated groups of people.

Therefore, according to him, the programmes and methods of learning will continue to be improved as outlined in the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN).

He also added that UUM is committed to offering management expertise to all levels of employees and employers both locally and abroad.

A total of 31 graduates comprising the members of staff from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RHDM) and Rural Capital Berhad (RCB) were awarded with their respective executive diplomas by Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff.

Meanwhile, a fellow graduate, Mdm. Marini Ruhaida Abd Ghani expressed her elation for being able to complete her diploma studies within two years.

According to her, she spent two weeks each month for four semesters travelling back and forth to the Customs Academy in Melaka from Putrajaya to attend classes.

"Thanks to the sacrifices I made in terms of time, finance and energy, I managed to complete my studies which will help in enhancing my knowledge and career," said the Assistant Superintendent of Customs, who is also the mother of two six-year-olds and a four-month-old baby.
