JAMBOREE MARKS 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE KEDAH STATE SCOUTS

E L JamboriUUM ONLINE: The Menteri Besar of Kedah, Dato' Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, officiated the 100th Anniversary Jamboree of the Kedah State Scouts and the International Brotherhood Celebration at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU) Parade Ground last Saturday.

According to Dato' Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, jamborees bring together scouts and provide them with opportunities to gain new skills. Jamborees also foster a deeper sense of scout brotherhood, and put into action the national goal of developing a great human capital base through camping-based activities.

"I hope that all members can use what they have learned here to manage their daily lives more efficiently and effectively, including efforts to produce a generation of capable, trustworthy, and authoritative scouts.

"The goal of this jamboree is to shape the character and identity of superior scouts who deserve to be highlighted as future leaders, as well as to build mental, physical, emotional, and physical resilience in line with the National Education Philosophy in producing first-class human capital that faces challenges," told him, who is also the Chairman of the Kedah State Scout Council.

According to him, this event can also foster a scouting culture and reduce disciplinary and social problems by implementing good disciplinary practises and emphasising the importance of prudent leadership in the process of building national identity.

"Congratulations to the Kedah Scouts on celebrating their 100th anniversary. Indeed, there are many challenges to overcome because it is not easy to build and lead an organisation despite different views, but in scouting everyone can sit in a row. This is the privilege of scouting."

At the event, Prof. Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, UUM Vice-Chancellor, received the Gold Star Medal commemorating 100 years of Kedah State Scouts.

A total of 120 UUM volunteers, including international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), volunteered their time to assist in the smooth operation of the programme, ultimately benefiting and empowering the students.

The jamboree, which took place over the course of five days, was a massive gathering of scouts engaged in scouting activities and was met with a very positive response.
