GTG RYG

UUM ONLINE: The Gotong-royong (community service) event at UUM (Universiti Utara Malaysia) INASIS serves as a platform to instil the spirit of volunteerism among the university community, especially the students. It serves as a form of practicing Ibadah (worship) through acts of service.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, emphasised the significance of volunteer activities as a form of worship. He emphasised that it is important for every individual to willingly engage themselves in such activities, including participating in humanitarian missions during floods.

He stated that volunteer activities encompass a wide scope involving active participation of youth and the community in various aspects of life. These activities provide assistance and support in the context of community development, health education, socio-economic development, agriculture, environment, disasters, welfare unity, and more.

Therefore, he strongly encouraged UUM denizens, especially students, to actively engage in volunteer work, in addition to focusing on their academic pursuits.

The Vice-Chancellor made these remarks while inaugurating the Gotong-royong event, which was held in conjunction with the Students Residential Hall (INASIS) Volunteer Day at INASIS MAS last Friday.

Prof. Dr Mohd Foad explained that Volunteer Day serves as a way to acknowledge and honour the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteers who generously contribute their time and energy to assist the local community.

According to him, voluntary and collective community service activities can enhance the INASIS environment and foster stronger bonds among individuals.

The Gotong Royong programme was attended by more than 600 students from 15 UUM INASIS.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, and the principals of the INASIS.
