Food Bank And On-Campus Jobs Help Students Ease Financial Burden

FOOD BANK AND ON CAMPUS JOBS HELP STUDENTS EASE FINANCIAL BURDEN

In order to avoid students from going hungry throughout their study period, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) launched the Food Bank and On-Campus Jobs programmes at the Chat Session with the Vice-Chancellor at TM Hall, recently.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the university management team was aware of the fate of students especially those from the B40 group. As such, UUM with the collaboration of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), private companies and centres of authorities (PTJ) held the Food Bank, the Student Food Assistance Program to help ease students’ financial burden.

According to him, students will be given food vouchers which will enable them to use the voucher at the cafe at their respective Inasis  and schools for food aid.

Moreover, the On-Campus Jobs programme, the Vice-Chancellor said: "Students will be allowed to work part-time at the university with a maximum of 15 hours per week per student.

"The programme will commence in April and the offer will be extended to companies and businesses operating within the UUM campus," he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said all the programmes provided by UUM showed that the university never neglected the welfare of the students, but gave them the opportunity to earn money by working part-time on campus.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muhamad Firdaus Mohmmad, a student from the School of International Studies welcomed the initiative put forth by the university management team  in assisting the less fortunate, not only in terms of food aid but also help them to earn money by working part-time.
