CHAT SESSION WITH VICE CHANCELLOR HELPS UNRAVEL STUDENTS GRIEVANCES

Delving into the grievances, complaints and problems faced by students of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) throughout their time on campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani joined students at the Chat Session with the Vice-Chancellor at TM Hall, TM Residential Hall (Inasis), recently.

During the event, he enlightened the students with the latest developments of the university as well as the plans the university set up to do to ensure not just the preservation and sustainability of UUM but also bring about  benefits to the university community including students.

During the nearly two-hour session, the Vice-Chancellor unravelled various grievances put forth by students namely the UUM Parcel Centre (UPC) which will be streamlined in the near future by setting up another UPC unit at selected Inasis; the addition of doctors or medical officers serving at the University Health Centre ( PKU),  suggestions  were also made to extend the emergency treatment service to 24 hours.

Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir said the university would also refurbish the amenities and facilities at the respective Inasis so that students could have a more comfortable stay. In fact, the university is considering plans of developing another sophisticated Inasis to accommodate a large number of students. The university will also make improvements on the facilities found in the gymnasium at the Sports Centre.

"Compared to other universities, the service provided by UUM to its students is good if not the best but many do not realize it. All these facilities are conducive for all kinds of activities.

"I'm confident that every service will be better and hopefully all students will be patient," he said.

Among other things, internet facilities will be enhanced with internet speeds increased to 10Gbps from the current 6Gbps in the near future, student support for the Smart Digital Campus programme and the implementation of various student related programmes throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

The Chat Session with the Vice-Chancellor continued with a question and answer session with students. The event also witnessed the presentation of a wheelchair to Mr. Muhammad Faiz Roslan, a semester two student of the Bachelor of Risk Management and Insurance programme.  Mr. Muhammad Faiz Roslan who has nerve problems on both legs, relies entirely on a wheelchair to move about.

Prior to the end of the session, the Vice-Chancellor reminded students not to waste their four years at the university, and not forget the aspirations of their parents who wish to see their children succeed and excel in their studies.
