AUTOMATIC MORATORIUM FOR STAFF STARTING AUGUST

moratoriumUUM ONLINE: During the presentation of a new assistance plan known as the People's Protection and Economic Recovery (PEMULIH) package last June, the Right Honourable Prime Minister announced the implementation of moratorium on bank loan repayments to all individual borrowers, whether from the B40, M40, or T20 group, and micro-entrepreneurs.

In line with the government's efforts, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) took the initiative to alleviate the burden on staff by automatically granting a moratorium for the second time as a way out of this ongoing pandemic crisis.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said UUM was very concerned about the fate of staff affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the university was committed to taking care of welfare in the best possible way.

“I am aware of the grievances and understand the staff's concerns during these trying times. The management of UUM is constantly striving and attempting to find ways to alleviate the burden on staff during the pandemic season.

"In this regard, UUM has taken steps to automatically implement a moratorium on loans to the staff involved beginning next August and lasting until December 2021, without the need for supporting documentation for approval," he said.

The moratorium was granted for the first time last year, from April to September, and it will be implemented for the second time this year.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the moratorium applies to three types of loans under the UUM Scheme - computer, vehicle, and housing.

According to him, he hoped that the moratorium initiative would help staff borrowers manage their cash flow during this difficult period.

He stated that UUM was determined to continue to provide the best service to its beloved staff and to fight for their rights at all times, despite the limitations, to ensure that the campus was on the right track of recovery and that its employees' welfare was protected.

Meanwhile, to assist the government in accelerating the vaccination programme and achieving herd immunity, UUM was prepared to serve as a Vaccination Centre (PPV) for Higher Education Institutions (IPT) in the National COVID-19 Immunization Program (PICK).

Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir stated that the university was prepared to contribute fully to the success of the PICK initiative, which was announced to expand and improve vaccination access.
