AURAS SET TO HELP ELEVATE THE UUM BRAND

UUM ONLINE: The contribution of the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Sarawak Alumni Association (AURAS) in the development of the University is anticipated to elevate the UUM brand to a higher level.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, even though AURAS is still in the process of establishment, the organisation has managed to officially gather 185 alumni from Sarawak.

He further added that AURAS has demonstrated efficacy in its impact on UUM through the provision of alumni scholarships worth RM8,000 to B40 Sarawakian students.

In addition, the enhancement of student development was facilitated by the mentoring programme conducted by Richmind Consulting and Mentoring Sdn. Bhd. which was held last Saturday.

"It is hoped that a programme similar to this one can be activated again by AURAS in which could potentially contribute to the enhancement of UUM’s reputation.

"The University also plans to engage in partnership with its alumni in activities that can contribute to the advancement of the university and its denizens in accordance with the UUM motto of Knowledge, Virtue, Service," he said at the Luncheon with the Vice-Chancellor and AURAS at Manager's Coffee, yesterday.

Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad also shared the success of UUM securing the 99th. position in Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Ranking 2023 and the second-best university in Malaysia.

The Alumni Homecoming Programme: UUM Alumni Sarawak Chapter (AURAS) this time successfully facilitated the reunion of 12 Sarawak alumni.

The programme managed to incorporate the five pillars of the Alumni Centre namely Alumni Engagement, Alumni Day Homecoming, Alumni Bonding, Alumni Endowment and Alumni Mentoring.

Meanwhile, the President of AURAS, Mr. Chi Poh Yung expressed gratitude towards the Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) for their attendance which demonstrated UUM's unwavering support for AURAS.

Mr. Chi Poh Yung expressed gratitude towards UUM for their consistent support towards AURAS in organising events and utilising the UUM brand.

According to him, the focus of AURAS is to organize activities pertaining to the well-being, leisure, financial prosperity and knowledge acquisition of UUM’s alumni and the people of Sarawak in general.

“We pledge as UUM alumni that we will continue to uphold the esteemed reputation of UUM as long as we represent AURAS.

"To continue the aspiration of encouraging young people to continue their studies, AURAS will organise the Jalinan Kasih UUM programme to Saribas that will take place in September," he said.

During the event, Mr. Chi Poh Yung presented a contribution RM5,000 to the UUM Alumni Centre Welfare Fund which was received by Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad.

Also present at the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed and Director of the UUM Alumni Centre, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Sobri Don @ A. Wahab.
