ASSISTING IN THE CREATION OF EXCELLENT RURAL STUDENTS, SIK DESIGNATED AS AN ADOPTED DISTRICT BY UUM

tncpi sikUUM ONLINE: Sik - In order to produce successful rural students, Sik has been designated as an adopted district by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor, stated that he decided to designate Sik an adopted district because he wanted to assist the young people from rural areas in the successful completion of their studies and their enrolment into the university.

According to him, UUM will assist the district of Sik in becoming a competitive district comparable to other districts and will also strive to generate as many educated individuals as possible in the district.

He stated that he saw tremendous potential in Sik and that UUM desired to be a part of the district's progressive realization.

“To students, I implore you to study diligently. Utilize UUM to the fullest extent possible in an effort to explore and expand your knowledge in order to prepare for the world of work. Be the pride of your parents, society, and country. Never feel insignificant of our humble origins. Make the poverty of our lives a fuel for the spirit to achieve glorious success.

“Do not squander the opportunity to further your education at UUM. Study hard until you excel, and then give back to the community and help those in need," he said recently at the UUM Prihatin Santuni Mahasiswa Parlimen Sik programme.

He stated that while enrolled in university, they must learn and master the English language as well as participate in a variety of activities. In addition to excelling in academics, they must also develop soft skills.

He said, they need to instil the ideals and aspirations to free themselves and their families from poverty.

At the programme, a total of 16 students from around the district of Sik received admission offer letters to study at UUM as well as contributions from the Food Bank.

Also present was the community leader, Dato' Tajudin Abdullah who also congratulated the children in the district of Sik who managed to secure a place to study in UUM.

"I am deeply moved by UUM's commitment to the community, particularly in Sik.

"I hope the noble efforts made by UUM can help produce excellent students and I do not wish to see the youths in Sik to be left behind or drop out of school," he said. expressing his desire for Sik to be designated as UUM's adopted district.
