56 LOCAL AND OVERSEAS STUDENTS REGISTER AT UUM GSGSG

VC GSGSG INTAKEUUM ONLINE: A total of 56 students - 42 local students and 14 international students from Nigeria, Germany, Thailand, China, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)- accepted offers to pursue their postgraduate studies - Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees - at the Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on 19 May 2021.

The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said although the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world and Malaysia, he was proud that the new student enrollments continued to rise, in line with the Ministry of Higher Education’s (MOHE) goal of seeing all universities continue their studies as usual.

In fact, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his confidence that the recent rise in the ranking of the main subjects - Social Science and Management - from 401-450 to 340, as announced by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021, had also ensured that the UUM would remain the university of choice for students pursuing higher education.

All new students will continue their studies in UUM COLGIS' doctoral programmes in Law, Public Management, International Studies, International Business, Political Science, Tourism Management, Public Administration, and Development Management.

Amongst the Master Degrees being offered included Law, Commercial Law, Human Resource Law, Political Science, Strategic Studies, International Business, Tourism Management and Public Management.

In the meantime, the Dean of GSGSG, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rusdi Omar welcomed the arrival of the new postgraduate students to the GSGSG via online to avoid face-to-face meetings due to COVID-19 pandemic.

All these students attended an academic briefing conducted by the Deputy Dean of GSGSG, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamidi Ismail and GSGSG Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Mohd Sukri Othman. Next, students were brief by the coordinators of the respective postgraduate programmes.
