5,000 DOSES OF VACCINE ARE EXPECTED TO BE ADMINISTERED OVER THE WEEKEND

ppv weekendUUM ONLINE: The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Institution of Higher Education (IHE) Outreach Vaccination Centre is expected to administer 5,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine over a period of two days this weekend.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said that, on the first day of vaccination last Saturday, the UUM IHE ‘Outreach' Vaccination Centre vaccinated a total of 2,442 people in the Kubang Pasu district between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

According to him, the UUM IHE Outreach Vaccination Centre was made possible with the collaboration of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).

He said, with a target of 2,500 doses a day, he hoped the people in the country, particularly those in Kedah, would be fully vaccinated to protect themselves from the COVID-19 infection.

“For those who have obtained an appointment for their first vaccination this Friday and Saturday, I hope they can attend on time to avoid congestion.

"I also thank all of the personnel from the MoH and UUM, as well as volunteers from the university and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), who are willing to sacrifice their time to serve so that the people of this country can prevent or protect themselves from contracting the infectious disease," he said.

Aside from that, the Vice-Chancellor was honoured by the commitment displayed by UUM volunteers who were responsible for ensuring the seamless process of administering the vaccine to the delight of the public, who admired the convenience and speed of the staff and volunteers involved.

Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir also expressed hope that UUM's efforts in opening the Vaccination Centre will assist the government in achieving herd immunity throughout the country as soon as possible. In addition, UUM was ready to assist MOH, particularly the Kedah state government, with the future immunisation process if allowed to do so by increasing the daily dosages to 3,500 doses per day.

He also urged the public to register for vaccination via MySejahtera and then get their vaccine jab because the vaccine will help boost the body's immune system to battle the disease.
