157 UUM ROTU CADETS COMMISSIONED AS YOUNG MILITARY OFFICERS

The Tunku Mahkota of Johore, Duli Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, handed overs letters of commission to cadet officers of the Reserved Officer Training Units (ROTU) as Junior Lieutenant at the 38th. Public University Commissioning Ceremony for Reserved Officer Training Unit (ROTU) held in full military panache at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johore recently.

UUM students were amongst the 1,560 students receiving their letters of commission at the 38th. Public University Royal Commissioning Ceremony for Reserved Officer Training Unit (ROTU).

Also present at the ceremony was UUM ROTU Commander, Colonel (H) Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani.

Chief Trainer of UUM ROTU, Major Sabri Ahmad said that a total of 157 UUM ROTU cadet officers received their respective letters of commission.

“Of the total, 81 are Malaysian Army Cadet Officers, 30 Royal Malaysian Navy Cadet Officers and 46 Royal Malaysian Air Cadet Officers.

"Having camped here from July 20 to August 3, the cadet officers who were commissioned today underwent full commissioning training and not to mention other training as well such as ice breaking, sports and performances conducted by teams from various universities across Malaysia," he said.

He said that through the activities that the cadets underwent enabled them to make their way to UTM for the commissioning ceremony and they also made friends with cadets from different universities.

According to him, the training proved to be crucial in producing ROTU cadet officers that were active, disciplined, effective when performing tasks, confident, able to make the right decisions, responsible and able to cooperate when carrying out tasks.

ROTU cadet officers form the exemplary group of young people made up of various races and ethnicities that are not only knowledgeable, intelligent and well-mannered, but also have military skills which are essential in helping to defend the sovereignty of our beloved homeland.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Defence, YB Senator Liew Chin Tong; Deputy Chief of the Malaysian Army, Lieutenant General Dato' Hasagaya Abdullah; Director-General of Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education Malaysia, Datin Paduka Prof Ir. Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir; Vice-Chancellors of the various public universities, officers at the Ministry of Education Malaysia, senior officers of the various public universities and officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
