119 UUM ATHLETES AIM TO SECURE 7 GOLD MEDALS AT SAM2024

UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) aims to secure seven gold medals at the Seventh Edition of the Malaysia Asasi Games (Sukan Asasi Malaysia (SAM) 2024) scheduled to begin from 1 to 3 March, at the UUM Sports Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan said a total of 119 UUM Foundation students will compete on a national level, representing UUM and its hopes and dreams.

According to him, success does not come without dedicated effort, and he expressed hope that every team will deliver an outstanding performance in all 11 events that will be contested at SAM 2024.

He emphasised the importance of fostering determination and optimism, along with effective planning of the team’s strategy.

"The UUM team aims to secure at least seven gold, three silver and two bronze medals and earn a spot in the top three positions at the championship.

"Make the accomplishment at this year’s games even more meaningful as we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the UUM Foundation Day alongside the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the UUM Centre for Foundation Studies in Management (PAP)," he said to the contingent representing the UUM Centre for Foundation Studies in Management at the foyer of the Sultan Sallehuddin Chancellery Building on Monday during the Flag Handover Ceremony.

A total of 11 events are being contested, namely carom (team), petanque (team), chess (men and women's teams), badminton (team), netball (women's team), futsal (men's team), table tennis (team), volleyball (men and women's teams), and athletics (race), 100 metres (men and women), 200 metres (men and women), 400 metres (men and women), 800 metres (men and women), 1500 metres (men), 4 x 100 metres (men and women's team), 4 x 400 metres (men and women's team), E-Sport: MLBB (team), and E-Sport: PUBG (team).

Also present at the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Rusayani Ismail; Director of the Centre for Foundation Studies in Management, Prof. Dr Muhammad Fuad Othman and university officials.
