UUM OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP TO THREE STPM HIGH ACHIEVERS

vc stpmUUM ONLINE: Pokok Sena - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) announced that if the three high achievers from the B40 family of Sijil Pelajaran Tinggi Malaysia (STPM) 2021 students are successful in their applications to the university through UPU Online, UUM will be willing to give scholarships to them.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah shared the good news when visiting the three students; Muhammad Omar Mokhtar Abdul Rahman, Salmah Aminudin, dan Nurasyikin Azizan at their respective homes at Kampung Kuala Lanjut and Kampung Budi, Pokok Sena as well as Kampung Sg. Mas, Pendang.

Haim Hilman said that he felt humbled and honoured to have the opportunity to visit the nation's three ‘diamonds’ and that this signifies UUM's compassion for the communities it serves, particularly its young people, by ensuring that they have the enthusiasm and motivation to pursue higher education.

"I want to remind them that hardship is merely a test Allah has given us to make us stronger in the future.

"In fact, if these three students decide to continue their studies at UUM, UUM is prepared to provide them full scholarships in order to boost their motivation. Aside from that, we are always accessible to listen to their worries, work through them, and look for the best solutions to help them,” he stated.

However, he continued, UUM always prays for the best for the students, regardless of the decisions they make.

He continued by saying that he is confident and believes that any higher education institutions that offer them seats are the best institutions and will actually help them realise their full potential.

During the visit, Haim Hilman also delivered the UUM almsgiving and a food basket containing daily supplies.

The three STPM graduates obtained the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.00; however, poverty hinders them from continuing their studies.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Omar said, he highly appreciates the offer from UUM and will consider it upon receiving the UPU online result that is going to be announced soon.

He continued by saying that this is because he wants to pursue his study in education courses and is hoping to get accepted by UPSI in order to realise his goal of becoming an educator.

“Apart from this, my greatest obstacle is my stateless status, without the MyKad certificate, it would be challenging for me to continue my studies.

“Therefore, when UUM stepped forward to offer their help, and if my stateless problem is still not resolved, I am willing to consider UUM as the destination for me to further my studies,” he said.

As for Salmah, she is very appreciative of UUM for being willing to visit her at home, for the offer, for the donation they gave her, and for the willingness to listen to her issues.

Although she has initially chosen Universiti Sains Malaysia as her next destination, she will undoubtedly give the offer from UUM some consideration as the offer touches her to the bottom of her heart.

Since her father, Aminudin Abdul Hamid, passed away four years ago, Salmah has been living with her grandmother, Aishah Saad, 82, while her mother, Rohmah Tasu, 56, a sufferer of schizophrenia, is being cared for at an old folks home in Perak.

In addition to Muhammad Omar and Salmah, the Vice-Chancellor also visited Nurasyikin, another outstanding student, and made a similar offer to her. He also presented her the zakat donation and food basket.

“I sincerely appreciate UUM's willingness to travel to my location to extend the offer of a scholarship at the institution.

“UUM is my fourth choice to complete my studies in Human Resource Management. If I'm selected, I hope to keep excelling even in university,” said Nurasyikin, who also hopes to become a teacher one day.

The trios, Muhammad Omar, Salmah, and Nurasyikin are classmates at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kubor Panjang, Pokok Sena and outstanding performers at STPM 2021.
