STRENGTHEN CONNECTION WITH AL-QURAN

UUM ONLINE: The very special month of Ramadan teaches Muslims to strengthen our connection with the al-Quran through the practice of tadarus (reading) and tadabbur (understanding).

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr Shahimi Mohtar, who is performing the duties of the Vice-Chancellor, stated that the message that is found in the al-Quran makes us His servants more devout while also allowing us to cultivate the pure values that are outlined by Islam.

"We should not seek to merely khatam (complete) the al-Qur'an; rather, we should seek to comprehend the divine revelation and the essence of the al-Quran that covers all aspects of daily life," he said.

According to him, Ramadan is a holy and blessed month, the primary month among others in which Lailatul Qadr occurs, which is superior to a thousand months.

"The holy month of Ramadan, which comes around only once a year, brings with it a variety of blessings and graces from Allah S.W.T. Indeed, as His servants, we are filled with joy at the arrival of this blessed month.

"We have the opportunity to carry out various acts of obligatory (fardhu) and sunnah (optional) worship by appreciating as much as possible in order to earn the multiple rewards promised by Allah S.W.T.," he said when he officiated the Ihya' Ramadhan 1444H Celebration, University Level for the year 2023, at the Islamic Centre yesterday.

Ihya' Ramadan is a celebration that is held to mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, which is eagerly anticipated by Muslims all over the world. During this month, Muslims strive to improve their devoutness and spirituality to receive the blessings and rewards that Allah has promised, as well as to be able to express gratitude to Allah.

According to him, in conjunction with the celebration of Ihya' Ramadhan, the Islamic Centre has planned a variety of beneficial programmes, some of which include the preparation of daily break-the-fast food for students and staff, daily tazkirah, tadarus, student tarawih imam, tazkirah series, and lectures.

"Thank you to the UUM Islamic Centre for being the heart of every spiritual programme that was organised throughout the month of Ramadan and for always giving their best commitment in making sure that every programme runs smoothly.

"As a result, in order to show our support for the activities that have been planned, let's all make it a goal to contribute as much as we can in terms of time, effort and money to the Ramadhan Fund of the Islamic Centre. May our efforts will be rewarded with a significant benefit in the afterlife," he added.

He expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to each and every one of the generous donors, particularly to the organisations and companies that contributed to the success of this event.

During the ceremony, contributors including the UUM Alumni Centre, Changlun Shell, IR-Saf Holiday & Express, Uniutama Management Holdings Sdn Bhd, Uniutama Education, Jakel Holdings Alor Setar, EDC-UUM, and Uniutama Property Sdn Bhd handed over Ramadan Fund Mock Checks to be used for charitable purposes (UPSB).

As the holy month of Ramadan draws near, the time has come for the campus denizens to mobilize all their efforts on stepping up their worship with the utmost enthusiasm during this eagerly anticipated month.
