106 PARTICIPANTS PLANT 501 MANGROVE TREES IN YAN KEDAH

bakau yanUUM ONLINE: A total of 106 participants participated in the Mangrove Conservation and Sustainability programme organised by the GMTJT3113 Environmental Administration Subject Class in collaboration with the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) School of Government (SOG) in Yan, Kedah, last Wednesday.

Dean of SOG, Assoc. Prof. Dr Halimah Abdul Manaf, said the Service Learning (SULAM) project for the A221 semester is a community service programme comprising lecturers, students, and school students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dulang, Kedah Forestry Department, and Yan District Office.

According to her, the high-impact programme was carried out to help communities around the district continue conservation efforts and ensure the sustainability of mangroves in the future.

Among the objectives are to maintain the sustainability of mangroves, to inculcate awareness among the population about the importance of mangroves, and to open a space for cooperation between the school and the community, government departments, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"The participation and involvement of all parties in this programme show a good relationship with the university, especially in the aspect of implementing activities," she continued.

Hopefully, by carrying out activities like this, we will be able to develop and strengthen studies and research in the field of public management and development carried out by UUM SOG.

During the programme, Dr. Halimah and 106 other participants were briefed and took part in planting mangrove trees around the area.
