UUM ONLINE: London - The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, made history by becoming the first Malaysian, as well as the first Asian, to be appointed a CMI Companion by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), an accredited professional institution for management, based in London, United Kingdom.
The Vice-Chancellor was appointed a CMI Companion in recognition of all his contributions and outstanding achievements in management and leadership throughout his career, straddling both the academic and management fields.
He received a certificate of recognition from Ms. Ann Francke, the Chief Executive of the CMI, in a ceremony held in London last May. The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Zeljko Sevic, the Dean of OYAGSB.
The membership in CMI Companionship is exclusive in that it is made up of internationally celebrated captains of industry and eminently distinguished academics who were appointed by invitation only.
Amongst the world class captains of industry who have been appointed as CMI Companions are the CFO of Siemens PLC, Ms. Maria Ferraro; Group Director of Global Human Resources, Rolls-Royce PLC, Ms. Mary Humiston; Chief Executive Officer, Scotland HSBC Bank PLC, Ms. Alison McGregor, and Vice Chair, KPMG LLP, Ms. Melanie Richards.
On the other hand, among the academic figures who have been appointed as CMI Companions are Professor Alec Cameron, Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Aston University; Prof. Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor and President, Warwickshire University; Ms. Helen King, Principal of St Anne`s College, Oxford University, and Professor John Latham, Vice-Chancellor, Coventry University.
The appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of UUM as a CMI Companion will indirectly add lustre and renown to the name and brand of UUM as the Eminent Management University, placing it on par with prestigious and globally acclaimed universities.
Those who become CMI Companions join an exclusive network of renowned industry leaders and exceptional academics, apart from being able to use their experience and influence to contribute to a new dimension in management and leadership, and help shape the direction and future of the profession.
Before this inspiring development came to pass, UUM and the CMI had already forged a collaborative link, in March 2017, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Kuala Lumpur.
Among the various benefits expected to result from this collaborative partnership is the added value that MBA graduates, under the auspices of OYAGSB, will receive in the form of a professional
certification from the CMI after the students complete their programme based on the new syllabus and structure, which are recognised by the CMI.
