UUM ONLINE: The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, urged the recently promoted members of the academic staff to be prepared to assume the greater responsibilities entrusted to them by the university.
He stressed that “the promotion is not just a recognition of excellence, but also a trust and a load of heavy responsibilities that need to be carried out,” during the ceremony to present letters of promotion to academic staff members at the Senate Meeting Room, yesterday morning.
The Vice-Chancellor added that a promotion was a privilege to those who were eligible and that, therefore, members of the staff did not need to worry because the University practised a transparent system in managing staff promotions.
"Since June 2010, a total of 426 academic staff members have been promoted. Of these, 3 have been promoted to the post of Professor (Grade VK6), 30 to the post of Professor (Grade VK7), 127 to the post of Associate Professor (Grade DS54), and a total of 267 to the post of Senior Lecturer (Grade DS52).
"This proves that the university always takes note of, and recognises, the contributions of academic staff members. In this regard, I hope that the academic staff members who have received their promotions, will carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them sincerely and at the best of their abilities, and assist in raising Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) to the elevated ranks of the most renowned universities in the world," said Prof. Dato' Seri.
At the event, a total of 13 academic staff members received the official letters promoting them to the position of Associate Professor (Grade DS54), thus increasing the total number of academic staff members in Grade DS54 to 195, which is equivalent to 16.82% of the overall number of academic staff members at the university.
Apart from this, also at the same event, three academic staff members received their appointment as Key Office Bearers of the University. These were Dr. Ahmad Hisham Zainal Abidin, who was appointed Dean of the School of Creative Industry Management and Performing Arts (SCIMPA); Dr. Mohd Kasri Saidon, who was appointed Director of the UUM Museum of Management, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Idayu Mahat, who was appointed Director of the Centre for Testing, Measurement and Appraisal (CeTMA).
Also present at the ceremony were the members of the University Management Committee, Deans of the various Schools, and senior officials of the university.
