UUM ONLINE: Perak – The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Golf and Recreation Club (UUMGRC) has been urged to be more active in generating revenue to boost its coffers.
The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, who is also the President of the UUMGRC, said that the club ought to redouble its efforts towards that purpose, for instance, through activities centred on attracting new members to the club, primarily from amongst the female members of the university staff.
He said that a large membership would not only help in the generation of revenue for the club, but also promote a healthy lifestyle and help build high self-esteem.
"UUM is now in the midst of completing the construction of five additional holes in its golf course so as to bring it up to par with other golf courses.
"Apart from this, careful planning should also be undertaken to ensure that the UUMGRC becomes more financially independent by making provisions to intensify efforts that will help the UUMGRC become more successful in terms of generating revenue," he said at the opening ceremony of the UUMGRC Retreat at the Virgo Batik Resort, Lumut, recently.
The UUMGRC organised the retreat for the express purpose of planning and presenting the proposed activities planned for the entire year of 2017.
As Captain of the retreat, Assoc. Prof. Dr Hasani Mohd Dali presented the planned schedules for all the monthly tournaments and the six major UUMGRC Championship tournaments for 2017.
In addition, several amendments centred on improving the policies pertaining to calculating handicaps and the assessment involved in awarding handicaps, were presented by the 2016/2017 UUMGRC Committee.
It was also suggested that the UUMGRC plan for overseas golf outings so as to afford members exposure to playing on international golf courses.
