UUM ONLINE: Alor Setar - A total of 6,156 graduands will receive their respective degrees at the 31st Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) which is scheduled to run for five (5) consecutive days commencing 11 to 15 November 2018 at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall, UUM.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani explained that, the event will commence with the inauguration of Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Sultan Sallehuddin, the Raja Muda of Kedah as the new UUM Pro-Chancellor during the first session.
This year, UUM will also confer the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Logistics Management) degree to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd., Dato’ Michael Tio, who is also an Adjunct Professor of UUM.
Dato’ Michael Tio will receive the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree (Logistics Management) from the Chancellor, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah during the first session.
"This year, a total of 6,156 graduands comprising 4,726 Bachelor degree recipients and 1,430 postgraduates will receive their scrolls throughout the nine sessions.
326 postgraduate degree recipients will be conferred with their Doctor of Philosophy degrees, Doctor of Management (7) and Doctor of Business Administration (14). 1,083 graduands will receive their Master’s Degree, "added the Vice-Chancellor.
In addition, 668 of the 4,726 Bachelor's Degree graduands will receive their First-Class honours degrees.
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir added that, the number of PhD, DBA and D.Mgmt graduands (347) has also shown an increase of 3.74% compared to last year where only 334 graduands received their postgraduate degrees.
Moreover, 748 graduands were selected to receive 35 university awards, including new awards.
"This convocation ceremony will also see the first batch of 44 graduands from the Master's and Bachelor degree programmes i.e. the Master of Science (Data Analysis), the Master of Science (Principalship) and the Bachelor of Event Management degree.
"Besides celebrating the success of the graduands, we will also host the Convocation Fair and this year’s theme is ‘Ilmu, Budi, Bakti: Tonggak Pendidikan Keinsanan’ from 8 to 15 November at the PALAPES Parade Ground and also around the campus," he said.
