UUM ONLINE: Two Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) College of Business (COB) students have been selected to receive full sponsorship from Maybank for their practicum stint at one of Maybank’s many branches found throughout ASEAN.
The two students are from the Bachelor of Accounting programme namely Mr. Muhammad Ridhwan Othman and Ms. Yap Jia Hui.
According to Mr. Muhammad Ridhwan, the selection was made through the Maybank Impact Challenge programme which brought together a total of 150 UUM COB final year students. The challenge was jointly organized by the COB Student Development and Alumni Office (PPA COB) and Maybank, and held at Seminar C Hall, STML as well as lecture halls around the same area recently.
"I really did not expect to be selected to participate in this programme, the tests proved to be very difficult and there were many outstanding participants who also posed as great contenders.
"It was the first time in which I had to face such difficult challenge which really forced me to understand and internalise something.
"The challenging part was the fact that we had to complete many tasks at one time. It meant that we had to make decisions for three different things and that the three things were important in terms of bringing victory to the group," he said.
According to him, the challenges given were related to the outside world, thus affording them with more exposure as preparation for them to face the outside world.
"I am very grateful for being given the opportunity to participant in such an invaluable programme and this success is also the outcome of my participation in all the training and leadership programme as a member of Beta Gamma Sigma," said the active member of the NOVAC club.
Meanwhile, the Dean of PPA COB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hendrik Lamsali said the programme was aimed at highlighting the ingenuity and skills of the students whilst scouting for those who meet the holistic features of future leaders.
He also expressed his elation and congratulated the recipients on their success and called on them to gain as much experience while undergoing their practicum stint.
"The opportunity to become part of the Maybank team is not easy and participants have to use opportunities wisely and to learn as much as possible for later," he said.
